What a fantastic experience!
Well it has been several months since my last post, at which point I was heading South to Stonington Island, Antarctica. However, after a wonderful field season at Base E carrying out survey work and emergency repairs, I have finally made it home to a comfy bed and warm shower. The season was a great success and we were able to complete all repairs to both the British Base E and the American East Base, ensuring the buildings have been left watertight and securing their future for several more years to come. We undertook a range of survey work and material sampling so that we can plan for future conservation repair projects and, we also managed to share the huts and demonstrations of our work with a number of visiting cruise ships. I cannot describe how fabulous it was to live and work in such a beautiful and remote part of the world and I feel incredibly lucky to be part of this programme. As you can imagine, things are extremely busy with planning for the next field season, not to mention the ongoing PhD research so for now I'll leave you with a selection of photos from the trip. Enjoy :)
